ABOUT US

soloThe Denver Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., was established in 1973 by Warren Alexander, Hubert L. “Hooks” Jones, John W. Mosley Jr., and others to motivate young minority individuals to aspire, seek and achieve successful careers in aviation, mathematics, engineering and aerospace.  The Chapter was later renamed the Hubert L. “Hooks” Jones Chapter to commemorate the Denver aviator who died August 24, 1975.

The chapter has approximately 60 members with diverse backgrounds including active and retired military, civil servants, and private citizens from all walks of life.  Eight chapter members are Documented Original Tuskegee Airmen who received their military training at Tuskegee, Alabama and are veterans of World War II.

The Hubert L. “Hooks” Jones Chapter has sponsored the Mile High Flight Program for fifteen exciting years. The purpose of the program is to (1) Educate youth about the vast opportunities in aviation and aerospace through tours and hands on activities.  (2) Provide long and short term mentoring for our students.  (3) Share the rich history of the Tuskegee Airmen.  Tour events have included:

      • Wings Over the Rockies Aerospace Museum
      • Centennial Airport
      • Denver International Airport
      • United States Air Force Academy
      • Metropolitan State Colleges Aviation Department
      • CU Boulder Aeronautical Engineering Department
      • Buckley Air Force Base
      • United Airlines Flight Training Center
      • Orientation flights in light airplanes and gliders

The most outstanding students are selected each year and actually learn how to fly.  We’ve met with thousands of students, sharing the history and philosophy of the Tuskegee Airmen: Excellence and achievement have no color barriers.

The Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., Hubert L. “Hooks” Jones Chapter meets monthly on the third Saturday, (except July and August) with meetings alternating between Denver’s Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum and the United States Air Force Academy.
